Assessment / Gap Analysis of an Organization

You wish to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your development or IT organization? You want to know what opportunities are available to improvement your organization and make it more competitive? We conduct an assessment based on CMMI, ITIL or SPICE to jointly analyze the capabilities of your organization and compile a report with suggestions for improvement actions and next steps.

Remark: Don’t get confused by the different terms ‘assessment’, ‘appraisal’ and‘gap analysis’. CMMI uses the term appraisal, whereas ISO/IEC 15504 talks of assessments and in everyday life we often say gap analysis. In principal, all three terms mean the same and are interchangeable.
We offer assessments for standard CMMI, SPICE, Automotive SPICE® and ITIL. In addition, we also provide innovative assessment combinations such as CMMI combined with ITIL.

What makes our assessments and appraisals special is that they are aligned with your organization’s business goals and that they focus on concrete next steps. In addition to a characterization of your capabilities against CMMI, ITIL or SPICE, we also expose the business consequences of any weaknesses uncovered and make suggestions for improvement actions.

Furthermore an assessment can be used to win the employees and management over for the need for improvement and change - if the assessment is designed right. One crucial aspect is that the assessments are a joint exercise where weintegrat communication measures, involv staff from your organization and discuss the results with the persons affected. These assessments go far beyond a simple green/yellowly/red rating of practices - they provide much more detailed insight and engage the organization.

We tailor the extent and the duration of an assessment to address your specific needs. Assessments range from a rough check of your organization in 2 days up to a detailed and intensive analysis that can take 2 to 3 weeks. The extent and the duration of an assessment are determined by the depth of the analysis, the number of projects evaluated, the size of the organization and the number of CMMI, ITIL or SPICE process areas taken into account. We determine all of these planning and scoping issues together with you in a short planning session. This session allows you to decide on the appropriate assessment to match your enterprise, your particular situation and specific improvement goals.

If you wish, we will lead you to attaining a capability or maturity level recognized worldwide. An official CMMI Appraisal, ITIL assessment or SPICE assessment documents the quality of your development or IT organization and this official classification allows you to demonstrate to your customers how you stand out from others.

Our assessors come from the engineering project practice and work actively in process improvement projects. This experience means that our assessments focus on the actual project practice and on immediate next steps for improvement.
