This course trains you to be an internal CMMI assessor based on the Action Focused Assessment and SCAMPI B/C assessment methods. After completing the training, you will be in a position to conduct assessments in order to check the implementation of CMMI in your organization. You learn how to conduct assessments based on these approaches and how these can prepare an organization for an official SCAMPI A appraisal.
The individual topics covered:
- Different types of assessments and their benefits
- The role of PPQA
- SCAMPI B/C A requirements
- The assessment process
- The assessment results
- Conducting interviews
- Document review
- Data consolidation and classification (e.g. direct artifacts, indirect artifacts, affirmations)
- Characterization vs. rating
- Review of results
- Recommending and tracking of improvements
Proportion of 60% theory to 40% practice.
Prerequisites
You have already successfully attended a CMMI introductory training course (e.g. "Introduction to CMMI").
Results
After this training you will have:
- An overview of the workflow of an assessment
- The knowledge of how to plan and conduct an assessment
- The knowledge of how to conduct interviews and how to document and consolidate observations
- The knowledge of how CMMI practices are characterized (red/yellow/green or FI/LI/PI/NI)
- The knowledge of how you agree and track recommendations for improvement
- The skills to accompany/conduct assessments in your own organization
Demarcation
Contents or interpretation of CMMI are not a part of this training. The extent to which the participants are capable of independently performing CMMI assessments in their own organization after this training is dependent on the knowledge and experience in this field that they bring with them.
This course is not a training as a team lead for official SCAMPI A/B/C appraisals recognized by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), but does qualify the participant to perform internal assessments.
Training material
In this course you will receive:
- A handbook with the presentation slides
- The book CMMI Guidelines for Process Integration and Product Improvement, Mary B. Chrissis, Mike Konrad, Sandy Shrum; Addison-Wesley 2006
- The CMMI 1.2 poster
- The CMMI 1.2 browser
