The experiment
In December 2017, we dared to experiment at the Darmstadtium. What we wanted to show: If self-organization really works (and many people believe it does these days), then even 40 people can do something new in a self-organized way - in our case, getting to know Scrum. By simply doing it without talking about it beforehand.
We communicated this vision in the training from the perspective of a product owner:
In our "Certified Scrum Master course in a large group of 40 people", our participants acquire the necessary knowledge in 3 days in self-organized learning teams with a maximum of 7 participants in order to:
- to know whether Scrum as a framework makes sense in their context and - if so
- to be able to start with Scrum in everyday life.
We trainers are less in the foreground here than usual and therefore create
- even more time for the participants to exchange ideas with each other,
- offer many more opportunities to broaden your own perspectives:
- through the exchange within your own learning team
- through the exchange with different experts, i.e. other learning teams and different trainers
- using suitable large group and moderation formats (fishbowl, lean coffee, open space, ...) as experienced in Scrum with many teams.
The exciting thing is that learning means embracing new perspectives and leaving the old behind. True to the motto: "Only an empty cup can be filled".
A lot can happen - and that's what we were hoping for.
And what does that mean now?
It was a great experience for us as trainers. It showed us just how much we can rely on the intelligence, enthusiasm and willingness of a group for a project like this. We would like to thank all the participants for this - for your trust in our idea and your participation and enthusiasm along the way.
This shows us that letting go of the old to start something new can also work out there if the right framework is put in place.
Now to the heart of the matter: you!
You were there?
- How did you feel about that?
- What did you experience?
- What did you take with you?
- What else do you wish for?
Are you interested in experiencing something like this?
- How can we help you in such a workshop (in-house at your premises or as an open format with others)?
- What questions do you have?
