Controversial thoughts from Malte Foegen and Simon Porro on the topic of scaling agility. Open design or use of a framework? It goes either way.

Agile scaling along the Agile & Lean principles
I believe that every organization is unique. That's why every organization also needs a unique scaling of agility. Prefabricated recipes are not enough, which is why we don't need new methods and frameworks for scaling. The principles of Agile and Lean are a good basis for developing your own solution for scaling: step by step with regular inspection and adaptation.
The principles are a guideline for selecting techniques and thinking ahead when designing a scaled agile solution. Principles allow for openness when designing your own solution. This is how we arrive at creative and innovative approaches that represent real progress.

Agile scaling with the help of frameworks
I think agile frameworks provide good ideas for your own scaling solutions. Many people need concrete images to imagine an agile & lean organization. Examples help here. These can be experience reports, the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or Large Scaled Scrum (LeSS). Simply listing principles does not help many people to find access to agile scaling. All models are wrong, some models are useful: none of the scaling approaches can simply be adopted for your own organization. But the approaches contain good practices and offer a good starting point for developing your own scaling solution. Of course, every solution is individual. But why should we do without the experience of others? That's why I find frameworks and experiences useful.
