Social media: Use it or leave it?

So:

Sarah Niemann, organizational developer at an Internet service provider:

The use of social media has become indispensable in the implementation of change. Employees are increasingly accustomed to using social media. It is part of daily communication with friends and acquaintances, as well as in companies.

When we plan a change, we use tools such as forums, online communities and online voting to involve employees in the planned change at an early stage. The project team sets up a profile for the change in our internal company social network. This makes it known and encourages comments. All associated initiatives are posted via this profile and can then be viewed via the timeline. Anyone can like and comment on it. This ensures transparency and a sense of community among employees.

Or like this:

Sigmar Klaas, central change management team in an international aid organization:

Change has to do with people. If I want to implement changes in an organization, I have to work with people and address them personally and take them with me.

In the past, we have often tried to order or "roll out" changes by email. This has failed almost every time. That's why we now try to address the affected groups directly, involve them in workshops to find solutions and provide coaches to help them cope with the change. Through involvement and participation, we achieve positive motivation to try out and accept the change. All changes in which we have consistently worked personally with people have been successful.
