Healthy change despite ups and downs - is that possible?

Change is the order of the day in our companies.iStock_000019193142_Ausschnitt_klein

Disguised in a wide variety of titles, restructuring, different ways of working and new tools are imposed on employees and "implemented" within the planned deadline. The stream of mandated changes never stops, and more and more people feel overwhelmed.

The increase in mental and psychosomatic illnesses can be seen as an indication of this. Various studies examine the question of what a change process geared towards employee health could look like. For example, the "InVest" study by the Institute for Applied Innovation Research in Bochum concludes that trust is the key resource for sustainable change.

Employees who see the sense of change and have confidence in their direct superiors and top management are more likely to stay healthy. Vital exhaustion primarily follows a loss of trust.

The results of the study by the Dortmund Research Office for Work, Prevention and Policy indicate that the health competence of managers is essential. What does this competence consist of? It starts with the ability to lead well. Health can be anchored in change by involving those affected by change and by recognizing stress at an early stage. Scrum is listed as an approach that offers a good framework for healthy working due to its focus on people and the promotion of self-organization.

The Mindful Business Network explores the question of how mindfulness, which stems from the Buddhist tradition, can be practised in business organizations. The health-promoting effects of relaxation and meditation exercises for the individual are hardly controversial.

But how do you combine cost pressure and the pursuit of efficiency on the one hand and the demand to stay in the moment on the other to create
an "organizational mindfulness"? There is a design concept - we can look forward to the findings.

People are moving more into focus - that is the good news in the current development of the economy. Because only people can master complexity. Differentiation is only possible through human service. And only healthy people can work sustainably.
