Once upon a time... the story of the wibas innobox*

My journey at wibas began in February this year and I had an idea - let's go on an adventure...

Level 1: Me, my idea and my motivation.

I wanted to develop something based on Adobe Kickbox that would help our customers step by step (level by level) to develop an idea through to innovation. This motivated me to make wibas better known in the field of innovation with a new product.

Level 2: Find supporters and understand the customer better.

I explained the idea to Anna and I was lucky. It met with approval. The first hurdle was cleared. Here we go! We develop our "innobox" with the help of Adobe Kickbox and use storytelling, gamification and prototyping directly.

Level 3: Fill out the Business Model Canvas (BMC) and find customers.

After we filled out the BMC, the first potential customers came to mind. Of course, we simply ask and find out that the customer is actually interested in trying out our innobox.

Level 4: Carry out first innobox customer experiments.

To get a new perspective, I brought another colleague, Steph, on board. We went through all the implicit hypotheses and considered what a prototype should look like. This should validate as many of the hypotheses as possible. As we were pondering prototypes and wondering how to get from the ugly cardboard box to a presentable box, Sybille came up with the saving idea of using MacBook packaging as a box for the innobox. That same evening, we were discovered at 10 p.m. by a very surprised Claudia, who wanted to drop something off. This gave us the opportunity to pass on the idea again.

Of course, we also tested these prototypes with the customer.

Level 5: Improve wibas innobox based on feedback.

With the feedback in mind, we reconsidered our hypotheses. Fortunately (at least from my point of view), we came to the conclusion that we should keep working on it. We sought to talk to other colleagues again and thought about how we could improve our innobox even further.

Level 6: Pitch and make the idea official.

After positive experiences and ideas on what should be improved, we have taken the feature out of submarine status (wibas feature that is not officially being worked on).

And from the top: The big give-away test at Solutions Hamburg 2019.

We created the latest prototype of the wibas innobox for Solutions Hamburg. We expanded our team to include Sadie as a designer and worked with her on all levels of the innobox again, giving us new perspectives.

Equipped with 20 boxes, our Solutions Team was on the road to do direct marketing for the box. During this phase, websites were also created to explain the benefits of the innobox and to provide additional information on the topic of innovation.

We also gave the wibas innobox to 3 customers so that they could try it out. All with the aim of obtaining concrete feedback.

This phase currently consists of many feedback loops that we are evaluating in order to take the next step.

What happens next?

At the moment we are finding out where there are other possible uses for the innobox, such as in coaching, workshops, or meetups and agile user groups. Or can it be used to support wibas' own Design Thinking intensive courses?

Our story isn't over yet and we'll definitely be going through the innobox a few more times before we get there. 😉

Are you interested in the innobox and would like to try it out? Please get in touch with me.
